Prevention

Prevention consists of all activities—both structural and non-structural—aimed at avoiding or reducing potential damage in the event of a disaster.

Non-structural prevention includes the National Service’s warning activities (aimed at forecasting—where possible—and monitoring events and the evolution of risk scenarios); civil protection planning; and training for system operators.

Other important non-structural prevention activities include informing the public, disseminating knowledge and a culture of civil protection, implementing and updating sector-specific regulations, and promoting and organizing drills at every territorial level.

Structural prevention activities, on the other hand, include participation in the drafting of guidelines for structural risk prevention; contributing to the planning of risk mitigation measures; and the implementation of structural risk mitigation measures in the event of an emergency.
